A farmer was removing a tree line that was encroaching upon his ability to maximize yields on his fields. Instead of burning all of the trees, we were able to salvage most of the sound ones for milling into lumber, here's a few shots during the process and unloading the cut lumber.
Peponi Woods is helping a local farmer recover the lumber from a stand of Spruce trees that suffered damage in a wind storm. About 12 of the 14 trees that were blown over are of a usable size and will be converted into lumber. Due to the wet year we've been having, the trees were uprooted by the wind. Though unfortunate that these trees were blown over before maturity, being uprooted means little wood damaged in the process. Here are some of the logs we've pulled out so far.
We recently had the privilege of milling up a red cedar tree out of Beloit, WI. This tree was taken down due to its proximity to an old home that was donated to a local fire department for live-burn training. It was very fortunate that the landowner had the tree left in one piece as opposed to it being cut into firewood.
It's not very often that we get to mill a red cedar so we'll let the wood speak for itself:
Our favorite part of the process is milling up the logs into lumber on our portable bandsaw sawmill. Enjoy some of the photos from the process with this slideshow.
We recently milled up some oak trees through our cost sharing program for this client. The client is in process of doing some forestry management on their property. This Oak was a bit troublesome to mill as the trunk had two main branches coming out of it and was rotten at the base. We still managed to save quite a bit of it though. Take a look at some of the pictures we snapped during the process.
A client asked us to recover the lumber in this hickory tree after it was blown over in a recent wind storm. This tree had some interesting bends in it towards the top so we had to buck the tree to get the most lumber out of it. Bucking is the process of cutting the tree into shorter logs.
Several of this clients trees were damaged in the storm and some cleanup work had already been done before we were asked to come out.
If your tree was damaged in a wind storm or needs to be taken down for other reasons, let us know first. We are ready to come out to you and turn your tree into lumber.
