A customer called us recently with several Ash Trees that have fallen prey to the emerald ash borer. A total of four trees totaling ~1,500 board feet of sawn lumber were cut in one day. Some of the tree sections were lost to rot unfortunately, but we did our best to save as much as we could. We did have the privilege of sawing one of the best Ash trees we've seen this year. At 20' long, 27" in diameter and losing only 3" to taper over it's length, this was one impressive tree.
We are always in awe of the beauty in trees; so enjoy these photos of the fallen giant. Soon, they will meet a new life as a rich floor in this customer's home.
We were recently called in by a customer in Lake Geneva, WI to give new life to a large oak on his property. This Burr Oak, a member of the White Oak section Quercus, was struck by lightning recently unfortunately bringing its days as a shade tree to a close. Estimated at ~250 years old, it measured an average of 45 inches in diameter as the base of it's trunk. We used our chainsaw mill to rip the sections in half before moving them onto the sawmill.
We enjoyed working with our customer in his father; sharing the love for preservation and conservation with fellow woodworkers. Thank you for the opportunity!
We've changed the look of our mill so you can spot us better when we're out and about. Let us know where you run across us by tagging a photo of us on Facebook or Twitter.
Until the end of the year, the first person to tag a photo of us out and about every month on either Facebook or Twitter gets a free Peponi Woods T-Shirt.
Here are a few more pictures from our Tree Line Cherry job.
A farmer was removing a tree line that was encroaching upon his ability to maximize yields on his fields. Instead of burning all of the trees, we were able to salvage most of the sound ones for milling into lumber, here's a few shots during the process and unloading the cut lumber.
Peponi Woods is helping a local farmer recover the lumber from a stand of Spruce trees that suffered damage in a wind storm. About 12 of the 14 trees that were blown over are of a usable size and will be converted into lumber. Due to the wet year we've been having, the trees were uprooted by the wind. Though unfortunate that these trees were blown over before maturity, being uprooted means little wood damaged in the process. Here are some of the logs we've pulled out so far.
The milling process of the two Elm trees we cut down was split across different days so here are some more pictures. This was from milling the largest of the two trees we cut last week. Do you have dead trees on your property? Give us a call and turn your trees into beautiful lumber.
