Cherry Prunus spp.


Appearance

Cherry has a creamy, pink sapwood clearly defined from the heartwood. The heartwood is a pale pink to brown reaching a red-brown in maturity. There can be narrow brown pith flecks and small gum pockets. The grain is straight, fairly fine, and of even texture.

Where it Grows

Cherry can be found in the US, Canada, Europe, North Africa and Eastern Asia. It can grow up to a height of 100 ft with a trunk diameter of 2 ft.

Properties

The weight tends to be around 3 lbs per board foot and dries fairly quickly. It does have a tendency to warp and shrink with some movement in use.

Uses

Cherry is very popular in furniture, cabinetry, flooring, carving, and sculpture.
